Narcan is extremely effective at reversing opioid overdoses if administered soon enough. It's effects will last for around 30 – 60 minutes.

Narcan will not work on overdoses of substances other than opioids. It’s active ingredient, naloxone, is an opioid antagonist. This means that it binds to the opioid receptors in your brain, preventing any other opioids present in the body from having an effect. If a person does not have opioids in their body, the Narcan will not affect them.
