What should I consider about my mindset before taking a drug?

What should I consider about my mindset before taking a drug?

Our thoughts determine and influence our actions. Let's discuss important factors you should consider when deciding to use drug or not from this article from Confidant Health.

Your frame of mind is important when you are making critical decisions like whether to use a drug or not. If you’ve reached a crossroads where you’re thinking about taking a drug, there are things about your mindset worth considering.

Adopt a Growth Mindset

Our thoughts determine and influence our actions. When we have a fixed mindset, we falsely convince ourselves that we’re unable to cope, we can’t do this, or we won’t do well. In comparison, a growth mindset allows room for positivity, progress, and confidence moving forward.

Anyone can learn to refocus his or her approach to thinking. When you catch yourself doubting your strength, pause to remember how far you’ve come, and how much you still stand to gain from working towards your goals.

Accept that You are Thinking About Drug Use

Once you do, you can begin to break down the problem. Ask yourself these questions before taking a drug:

  • What is bothering me?
  • Should I talk to someone?
  • What positive action can I take in this situation?

Align Your Core Values

Consider your core values and whether your current mindset is aligning with those values. How will taking a drug affect those values?

Considering your mindset before taking a drug can introduce resources that help you create another solution.
