Suboxone (buprenorphine) is specially formulated to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream via the mouth. It can be taken as a strip or a pill that is held under the tongue until it dissolves. Swallowing buprenorphine exposes it to stomach acid and the gut, which will prevent absorption. It is important to hold it under your tongue and allow it to be fully absorbed without swallowing. Food, water/drink, and smoking should be avoided for 20 minutes after the dose.
