Like most medications, there are some known side effects of Buprenorphine. Talk with your provider if you have concerns about these side effects or if you experience any that don’t go away. Common side effects include:

  • Constipation, headache, nausea, and vomiting

  • Dizziness

  • Drowsiness and fatigue

  • Sweating

  • Dry mouth

  • Muscle aches and cramps

  • Inability to sleep

  • Fever

  • Blurred vision or dilated pupils

  • Tremors

  • Palpitations

  • Disturbance in attention


    You may experience symptoms of opioid withdrawal. Tell your healthcare provider if you experience any of the following:

  • Shaking

  • Sweating more than normal

  • Feeling hot or cold more than normal

  • Runny nose or watery eyes

  • Goose bumps

  • Diarrhea

  • Vomiting

  • Muscle aches


    Some side effects may be signs of an overdose. Seek emergency help if you experience any of the following:

  • Feel sleepy and uncoordinated

  • Have blurred vision

  • Have slurred speech

  • Cannot think well or clearly

  • Have slowed reflexes and breathing


Some side effects may be signs of liver damage. Call your provider right away or seek emergency help if you experience any of the following:

  • Skin or the white part of your eyes turning yellow (jaundice)

  • Urine turning dark

  • Stools turning light in color

  • Loss of appetite  

  • Stomach (abdomen) pain or nausea


    You may also have an allergic reaction to buprenorphine. If you exhibit any of the signs below seek emergency medical attention:

  • Rash

  • Hives

  • Swelling of the face

  • Wheezing or trouble breathing

  • Loss of blood pressure and consciousness
